PRODUCT CARE

Due to the nature of our materials, natural and discarded objects, many of our pieces are fragile and irreplaceable. Here are some basic care instructions to follow with your Body Parts jewelry:

  • If your earrings come with earring backs - wear them with your earrings at all times. The likelihood that we are able to recreate a lost piece is unfortunately slim. Please see our FAQs + Policies page for more information as to what can be done in the event a jewelry piece has been lost.
  • No unneeded pressure. Treat your Body Parts like you would your body parts; with special care. Please do not sleep in or put unwarranted pressure on your pieces.
  • Keep away from water. Depending on the material, many of our pieces do not contain sealant as we try to preserve its natural look; keep out of reach of water (i.e. showering, swimming, skinny-dipping, etc).
  • If your Body Parts contains hair or another fringe-like material (i.e. bungee cord insides) please do not bend or fold them; lie flat or hang them when not wearing.
See material specific cleaning and care instructions below. Please note that if you don't feel comfortable cleaning or caring for your pieces yourself, we completely understand and will gladly clean your Body Parts for you free of charge (excluding shipping charges). Product cleaning falls under our repair policy. Please see our Repairs page to submit a request.

At Body Parts we use Argentium Silver to accompany our jewelry pieces. Argentium is tarnish free so there is no need to worry about your silver Body Parts turning color over time.

On rare occasions we do find silver or repurpose old silver jewelry. Silver tarnishes when exposed to water so please be cautious and do not wear your Body Parts silver pieces in the shower or swimming pool (chlorine hastens the tarnishing process). To clean your silver tarnished silver put 2 tablespoons of baking soda with water and set in a pan over aluminum foil - rub the silver lightly with a cloth and the mixture over the foil. Store your silver pieces in a cloth pouch or in a jewelry box when you are not wearing it to keep the silver shining. If the piece contains metal and another object like bone or wood, please refrain from submerging the natural material in any cleaning solution. Carefully apply and scrub the silver piece without getting it on the other materials (quickly rinse any natural materials if you get the solution on it). If you don't feel comfortable cleaning a piece like this yourself, reach out to us and we will gladly polish it for you free of charge.

Bone and wood are natural objects that we clean thoroughly before and after we make your Body Parts jewelry. However, we use no sealant on our bone/wood pieces as we believe in maintaining the natural look nature intended for it. This can often lead to smudges from fingers or makeup residue rubbing off as you wear the piece. to clean, simply add soap and water and rub lightly with a cloth or sponge and let dry in the sunlight in the window. You can also lightly sand with sandpaper, but please be sure to wear a mask during this process; bone/wood dust is highly harmful to the lungs.

Brass and copper naturally tarnish when exposed to oxygen. Some like the natural patina of brass and copper but if you prefer the shine of new metal you can do so with some household products. Please only do this if your piece contains metal only. If your piece contains another object like bone or wood try the following: take 2 tablespoons of baking soda and add drops of lemon juice until you reach a paste then take an old toothbrush and apply to your piece and scrub. allow to sit for 20-30 minutes then rinse with water and dry (be wary of the amount of pressure when cleaning though). If the above does not work or the piece is heavily tarnished, place the piece (metal portion only) in vinegar and let soak for 30 minutes to an hour and then lightly scrub with an old toothbrush. Store your brass/copper pieces in a ziplock bag when not wearing - this will keep them free from any oxygen that may tarnish it.

As goes for most of our pieces, we use no sealants on our acrylic and plastic pieces and then can sometimes get smudged or dirtied in the wearing process. Simply wash lightly with soap and water and set out to dry.
